THE STRANGER DID NOT ENDORSE KIM SCHRIER IN THE 2024 PRIMARY
...But Schrier has moved way farther right on immigration and criminal justice than we think she needs to, and now she’s added warmonger to the mix. To list a few particularly heinous votes: In this last term, Schrier voted for the Laken Riley Act, which would allow ICE to indefinitely detain undocumented immigrants accused of theft, including Dreamers. So a cop could accuse a teenager of stealing some earrings from the mall, and that teenager could wind up in a federal immigration prison. When asked why she’d support a bill that will undoubtedly lead to this scenario, Schrier said, “Um, everybody needs to follow the law, and there is due process.” Now there’s someone who will always stand up for what’s right, even with a racist, xenophobic tyrant waiting in the wings!
She went on to vote for the so-called Middle Class Borrower Protection Act, which will ultimately make it harder for first-time home buyers to get a home loan, according to the Center for Responsible Lending. She also voted to expand the US’s sterling warrantless surveillance program, to meddle in local DC criminal justice politics, to censure Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib for criticizing Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians, and to send billions of dollars in weapons to Israel while ALSO hobbling the only organization who could realistically distribute aid in the country. Given that voting record, you won’t be surprised to learn that Schrier has not called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

SCHRIER IS PRO-GENOCIDE
Schrier was one of 22 Democrats who joined Republicans in voting to censure Representative Rashida Tlaib for criticizing Israel. (November 7, 2023)
At a moment when millions of civilians in Gaza were facing imminent famine, H. R. 1102, a $1.2 Trillion “minibus” spending bill, looked to cut funding to the critical UN aid delivery program, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Schrier of course voted to cut the funding. (March 22, 2024)
Schrier has also voted, repeatedly, to send weapons to Israel as the Israeli army continues to escalate the genocide in Gaza. (April 19, 2024) (April 20, 2024)(November 12, 2024)
Schrier was one of 42 Democrats who joined Republicans in voting to sanction the International Criminal Court for requesting arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials. (June 6, 2024)
She was one of 62 Democrats who joined all but two Republicans in voting to ban the State Department from citing Palestinian death tolls from the Gaza Health Ministry, a move that Rashida Tlaib denounced as "genocide denial". (June 27, 2024)

Schrier was one of the shameful 52 Democratic votes for H. R. 9495, which is the bill that would allow the Trump administration to revoke non-profit tax status from pro-Palestine organizations. (November 12, 2024)
She voted no in the revote that happened on November 21 a couple weeks later, but that second time the bill only needed a simply majority to pass, and it passed without needing Schrier's vote.
Schrier voted for the bill the first time knowing that if it passed, she would be giving the oncoming Trump administration a tool that they could use to target any nonprofit they wanted to simply by branding it a "terrorist supporting organization".
Schrier also voted for H.R. 1449, which endorses a bogus Israel lobby definition of anti-Semitism. Representative Tlaib expressed concern that the resolution "will be used to stifle dissent and chill free speech, especially Palestinian human rights advocacy". (November 20, 2024)
These votes paved the way for the suppression of free speech that we have seen from the Trump administration in 2025.
And after the Trump election...
SCHRIER IS PRO-ICE
The Laken Riley Act was the very first law signed by Donald Trump in his second administration.
Named after a student who was murdered in 2024, the bill requires the detention of unauthorized immigrants accused of theft and violent crimes.
“In the wake of tragedy we are seeing a fundamental erosion of our civil rights,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, a New York Democrat. “In this bill, if a person is so much as accused of a crime, if someone wants to point a finger and accuse someone of shoplifting, they would be rounded up and put into a private detention camp and sent out for deportation without a day in court.”
Kim Schrier was one of 46 House Democrats who voted to enact the Laken Riley Act.
She directly handed the Trump administration a tool that they proceeded to use to further persecute immigrants in this country.

SCHRIER IS PRO-COP

Kim Schrier would not meet with 8th District Palestinians from Wenatchee for Palestine, but she sure found time to meet with the Wenatchee Police Department.
Over the course of a year, she met with police in Snoqualmie, Enumclaw, Chelan County, Sammamish, King County, and Wenatchee.
There is an ongoing U.S.-backed genocide abroad, and Schrier's constituents on U.S. soil were worrying about paying for food and rent and the looming threat of fascism, and meanwhile Schrier was concerning herself with "the priorities and needs of local law enforcement".
"Unfortunately, when it comes to policing, our national discourse has devolved into three-word bumper sticker phrases that do nothing to make our communities safer. The call by a small but loud group to “defund the police” is just one example.
My response continues to be: absolutely not. I do not believe in defunding the police, and have never supported efforts to do so."
In 2024, she funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars to police departments in Washington, and has been focusing on securing more police more funding for years.

Just to give a few examples...
Schrier was one of just 14 Democrats who joined Republicans in voting for H.R. 3564, the Middle Class Borrower Protection Act of 2023, which makes it more expensive for middle-class people to become homeowners, and makes it more difficult for Americans to enter the middle class by obtaining affordable mortgage credit. (June 23, 2023)
Schrier was one of 81 Democrats who voted for the National Defense Authorization Act, which enacts the first federal anti-LGBTQ+ law in over a decade and targets the trans kids of military service members with bans on coverage of their gender affirming care. (December 11, 2024)
